Yunusa Tanko
The National Conscience Party (NCP) announced a protest march set for later this week, and the threat of likely legal action against organs in the electricity sector in the country.
At a press conference today in the home of the founder of the party, Mr. Yunusa Tanko, the National chairman of the party, bemoaned what he called the “declined rate of electricity supply in the country,” and an overall down grade in services, despite a take-over of the utility by new private owners.
Tanko faulted increased tariff rates and its estimated system of billing, which puts cost of electricity on the high end for average users.
The party called on every user of electricity across Nigeria to be part of the protest slated for Friday 7th of February, 2014. Tanko said the march, which will lead to the office of the Nigeria Energy Regulatory Commission, or NERC, Ikeja on 199 Awolowo Way Ikeja, will begin from the home of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, located on 9A, Ademola Close, Ikeja, GRA. He said the march will commence by 9am.
The party also threatened it may sue the utility on behalf of Nigerian electricity users, if the situation fails to improve after the Friday warning protest.
