Ima Niboro
Nearly three years after he was eased out of office, erstwhile Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro, has been appointed Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Niboro, who was dismissed in July of 2011 to pave way for the emergence of Dr. Reuben Abati, who was chairing the Editorial Board of The Guardian at the time, returns to government as part of a seven-man appointment announced late Thursday night by Abati, his successor in office.
Also appointed are General Martin Luther Agwai, as Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Mrs. Tanwa Olusi as Deputy Chairman of SURE-P, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze as Special Adviser to the President on New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and Senator Suleiman M. Ajadi as Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly (NASS).
Mr. Sola Omole was also appointed as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, or the NTA, while Alhaji Ladan Salihu was appointed Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
“In furtherance of efforts to continually strengthen his administration on all fronts, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointments to fill existing vacancies”, Abati wrote in a statement.
“Gen. Martin Agwai (rtd.) was, until now, Deputy Chairman and Acting Chairman of SURE-P, while Mrs. Njeze is the current Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland”.
According to Abati, he said in a statement, “all appointments take effect immediately”.
