Items recovered by JTF during a suspected Boko Haram hideout in Kano
A suspected bomber has been lynched by Kano residents during an unsuccessful attempt to detonate a bomb at Kofar Kwaru, near the Emir of Kano’s palace on Wednesday night.
A witness, who pleaded anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that no casualty was recorded when the bomber threw what was suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The witness said that one of the suspects was lynched, while the other was handed over to security operatives.
He said that the suspects were riding a tricycle and “one was caught and burnt by people when he tried to run away after throwing the IED’’.
The spokesman of the Joint Task Force in Kano, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the incident, saying “the area has been cordoned off by security men and that more details will be given soon”.
Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, had a fortnight ago, suggested the engagement of ordinary citizens in fighting the activities of Boko Haram insurgents.
Babangida advised Nigerians to adopt the “Azare style”, referring to the method adopted by residents of Azare in Bauchi State, to deal with suspected terrorists.
Azare residents last year over-powered some gunmen who invaded the town and have been enjoying relative peace since then.
