The House of Representatives Committee on Finance says it will conduct a thorough evaluation of the 102-page response from the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to its 50 questions on the state of the economy, and then make its own presentation to the nation.
In a statement it called “State of the Economy: 50 Questions…The Search for Truth Begins,” the committee today commended the Minister for her response within a reasonable time, and promised to commence work on it immediately, commencing with a publication of a timetable of its activities.
It noted however that that if in the process the need arises for further explanation, information or additional documents, the Minister would be promptly informed.
“The Committee will also call for memorandum on the state of the economy and 50 questions from professionals, academics, civil society and all well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement said. “This will be followed by a public hearing.”
It thanked Nigerians for their patience and understanding, and expressed the hope that they will continue to support the committee in its patriotic search for the truth with regards to Nigeria’s troubled economy.
