The Nigerian Navy said today they've arrested 21 people suspected of oil theft, and seized two vessels in the waterways of the Agbami oil field in Baileys.
Rear Admiral Sidi-Ali Hassan Usman said in a statement the two vessels were laden with 2.111 million liters of crude oil, and the vessels lacked the permit to lift crude.
"…the Nigerian Navy and the Central Naval Command in particular, (are determined) to completely eradicate oil theft, illegal bunkering and other illegality in the Nigeria waters..."
Permits missing were the Nigerian Port Authority bunkering permit and the NNPC nomination for crude oil lifting.
The Navy is to step up surveillance activities in the waterways and creeks in the Niger Delta region
The two vessels were intercepted at different points in the Ebi Creeks around the Agbami Oil field during December and January.
