Industrial Court Reverses President Jonathan’s Sack Of NCC Commissioner Gwandu

Bashir Gwandu

The National Industrial Court in Abuja today set aside a decision by President Goodluck Jonathan to sack Bashir Gwandu, an executive commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
President Jonathan sacked Gwandu in 2012 after he revealed a fraudulent sale of telecom bandwidth spectrum that led to the loss of N53 billion in revenues accruable to the government; one of the beneficiaries was controversial party chieftain and fraudulent businessman, Emeka Offor.
The court today set aside the removal of Gwandu stating that the hurried sack of Mr. Gwandu did not meet the standard for justice and fairness and the President did not state what Mr. Gwandu did wrong.
