Woman gang-raped in a moving car in India

New Delhi – A 21-year-old woman was abducted and gang-raped in a car in India’s northern city of Amritsar, police said on Tuesday.
The attackers played loud music on the car stereo as they drove around the city for an hour late on Monday, allegedly taking turns to rape the young woman, police officer Harjit Singh Brar said.
“The victim was returning home from work last night when two men forced her into the car near a bus stop,’’ he said.
“Two more men got into the car later, and after raping her, the men threw her out of the car.’’
The victim was admitted to a hospital where she was said to be in a stable condition.
Charges have been filed with the police for abduction and gang rape.
Brar said police have identified two of the attackers and hoped to make arrests soon.
A fatal gang rape in December of a student on a moving bus in New Delhi sparked international outrage and nationwide protests.
Reported attacks by rapists have increased in Indian cities this year, in spite of a tightening of the punishments for sexual assault.
