Crude Oil Vessel Sinks Off Bayelsa Coast, Community Discharges Cargo

A vessel suspected to be loaded with crude oil has reportedly sunk in the Odioama community area on the fringes of the Atlantic Ocean in Bayelsa State, as members of the community warded off strangers while oil thieves discharged the cargo.
Residents of the coastal community confirmed the presence of the distressed vessel but gave no further detail.
Chief Mark Eketekpe, a community leader in Ijawkiri area of Odioama confirmed that something of that description happened a few days ago but that he does not know where the vessel came from.
“They have arrested the captain of the vessel, what else do you want?” he asked.
Another resident confirmed that officials of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has visited the community to assess the state of the vessel.
