Late Governor Yakowa’s Media Advisor Arrested Over Facebook Pictures On Southern Kaduna Attacks

Mr. Reuben Buhari, the media advisor of late former Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State, was arrested today in the state capital and taken to the Police Headquarters in Abuja.
Buhari was arrested for posting gory pictures of his kinsmen killed in the troubled Southern Kaduna region sharing boundaries with Plateau State in a closed group on social networking service, Facebook.
A senior police officer in Abuja confirmed that Buhari is presently under interrogation at a Police facility in Abuja.
But there are wild accusations that the arrest was instructed by Vice President Namadi Sambo, who also hails from Kaduna — a claim we could not ascertain in Abuja.
The Police source further revealed that Buhari also underwent interrogation in Kaduna over the allegedly inciting photos, before his transfer to Abuja.
Buhari, the source said in his statement in Kaduna, insisted that Buhari denied inciting people, saying he only posted the pictures to prove the enormity of the attacks and the urgent need for government action to stem the waste of innocent lives.
It was also gathered from a journalist working with THISDAY Newspapers in Abuja where Buhari also works, that the Police in Kaduna discharged him earlier last week after he wrote an undertaking, and the case was closed. But he said the issue was politicized this week, and Vice President allegedly prevailed on Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar to process Buhari’s arrest and transfer from Kaduna to Abuja.
“Reuben told us yesterday in office that the Police asked him to report to Kaduna on Tuesday and later on, he was arrested and taken back to Abuja here. He just left us to serve as media advisor to the minister of environment”, the source said.
“It is highly politicized; it was his own people who were killed and he posted their pictures. Why would the Police not go after the killers but go after the one who is mourning. We are also surprised by how a case in Kaduna will be taken to Abuja; it confirms our suspicions that it is politicized and there is more than meets the eye”.
