Emergency rule: Reps summon service chiefs

The House of Representatives summoned service chiefs on Wednesday over President Goodluck Jonathan’ request to extend the emergency rule in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
The House, in a resolution, said the chiefs would brief members on the current security situation in the affected states before they could put the request to a debate.
The briefing will take place on Thursday.
The resolution emanated from a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola( PDP-Oyo), which was unanimously adopted without debate.
Akande-Adeola, said the House on May 21, considered and adopted the report on the state of emergency (certain states of the federation) proclamation, 2013 by a majority votes of 253.
She added that by virtue of the provisions of section 305 (6) (c), of the 1999 Constitution, the proclamation would elapse after six months from the date of approval.
