Two Students Of Olabisi Onabanjo University Killed As Police Shoot To Halt Protest


A student allegedly shot and killed by the Nigerian police today

Two students are reported to have been killed this morning at the Olabisi Onabanjo University [OOU] in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, as policemen confronted with violence students involved in a peaceful protest.
A source in the institution said the premises have turned riotous with students and staff of the institution dashing into nearby bushes for safety.
A student union executive who spoke anonymity on the phone he was hiding in a bush. Eyewitness accounts say the police arrived at the entrance of the campus in armored tanks and began shooting sporadically into the air. It is not yet clear whether the two students killed were deliberately aimed at or killed by stray bullets.
It was gathered that the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, ordered the policemen to the campus upon learning that they had started a protest against some harsh policies of the school management.
