Two persons reported to be strong members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) died in a road crash on the outskirts of Kaduna on Friday, following a visit to the airport to welcome Vice President Namadi Sambo.
The accident took place as they returned to the town. Four people were also injured.
A source at the Nigerian Army Hospital, popularly known as 44 Military Hospital Kaduna, attributed the accident speed and unusual driving by the convoy that received the Vice President at the airport.
The source added that the four persons who survived are in critical condition in the hospital, and may be referred to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria.
The source also disclosed that Sambo has sent emissaries to the families of the deceased and that the Kaduna State government will foot their medical bills.
The Vice President is in Kaduna to meet with the Chief Tony Anenih-led Board of Trustees of the PDP. He will also attend a meeting of the North-West Zone of the party.
